Caseload Details
- Support a high school (9th-grade) student with visual impairments.
- Responsibilities include:
- Writing and implementing IEP goals and objectives tailored to student needs.
- Performing evaluations and assessments to determine the students learning requirements.
- Collaborating as a team player with educators, families, and support staff to ensure comprehensive care and student success.
Number of Positions: 1
Work Setting: Hybrid onsite and virtual flexibility available based on district needs.
Responsibilities
As a Braillist with Montrose County School District, you will:
- Develop and modify braille materials, including classroom assignments, tests, and instructional resources, to meet the student's academic requirements.
- Conduct assessments to evaluate the students current abilities and needs.
- Write measurable IEP goals and objectives in alignment with the students educational progress and growth.
- Provide one-on-one instruction in braille literacy, orientation, and mobility when applicable.
- Collaborate with the students IEP team to review progress, adjust strategies, and ensure compliance with state and federal education standards.
- Maintain thorough documentation and records for evaluations, assessments, and student progress.
- Serve as a resource for educators and staff to support effective implementation of braille-related strategies.
- Stay updated on best practices, assistive technology, and tools to improve outcomes for visually impaired students.
Qualifications
- Education: Relevant certification or training in braille transcription and/or working with visually impaired students.
- Experience: Prior experience working with students with visual impairments, particularly in a high school setting, is preferred.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in braille production and transcription (Unified English Braille preferred).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
- Familiarity with assistive technologies for visually impaired students (e.g., screen readers, braille displays).
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work effectively across various settings (onsite and virtual).
