Hey there, my name is Ronnie. I am an occupational therapy student and have two baby bears. (Chewy and Baylor). Ok, they are not really bears but they are super cute shih tzu’s.

Where are you at in your journey to be a therapist?

I am currently in a OTD student brainstorming between mental health settings, NICU, and faith-based organizations such as non-profits. A weird mix, but I think there’s room for ECI too.

Where are you currently enrolled and what year are you?

I am currently enrolled in an accelerated 2-yr OTD program at Baylor University. Sic’Em!!

What are your goals post-graduation?

My goals post grad is to first pass the NBCOT exam and serve as nontraditional OT here at home. Whatever that may look like. I eventually want to work in pediatrics, ministry or possibly on campus alongside my husband. I’m not quite sure yet.

What would you share with someone who wanted to find a position like yours or build a company/brand such as yours?

If you are a tenacious student with big dreams and don’t know where to start. Start with what your gifts are. This could be volunteer work, small, odd jobs, or just at church. This is where I’ve met some of the best leaders. For me, I enjoy and find meaning in serving in my community and meeting new people.

What would you share with someone who is starting their journey to be a therapist?

It’s okay to be nervous but just don’t be too hard on yourself. During my didactic year, I probably got an average of 5-6hrs of sleep/night just to get a B on an exam. I was okay with receiving the B’s because I knew I did my best. I received like 2 or 3 C’s at some point too. Eventually, it all works out. Enjoy these years because they fly by.

Anything else you’d like to share about yourself and your journey to where you are right now?

Well, graduation is on the horizon, and I can see the finish line. I just bought my regalia last week and it hit me hard! I haven’t walked across the Ferrell center since high school and that was 7 years ago! It’s going to be a once in a lifetime moment. My husband and I have loads of ideas on ways to give back to the program/university so we’re just going to keep praying for God to intercede.

Brag about yourself! What are you doing right now that’s super cool?

My husband and I are in the process to completing our first home right the street where we went to high school. The hope is to house OT/PT students during lab immersion to provide a more affordable housing option. We will have a total of 3-4 bedrooms available next year!! It’s a long process, so keep the process in your prayers.

What are ways our readers can connect with you and follow what you are up to?

Stay in touch or reach out by messaging me on my @Waco.OT page. I’m always down for a late night convo.

Congratulations on almost finishing your program, Ronnie! Grateful to share your journey on Jobs For Therapists.
