About Us

MISSION STATEMENT: 

The mission of Lake Region Special Education is to address the unique strengths and needs of students through partnerships with families, schools, and communities.

 ​Lake Region Special Education is a special education cooperative that includes 12 different school districts located in 5 counties. In this unit, the following services are provided:

  • Special education services for students all disabilities, including speech/language impairments, learning disabilities, autism, non-categorical delays, emotional disturbances, intellectual disabilities, hearing impairments and visual impairments;
  • Occupational therapy (OT)'
  • Physical therapy (PT);
  • Preschool programs and preschool screening;
  • Psychology and counseling;
  • Social work services;
  • Transition services;
  • Devils Lake Day Treatment--a day program for students (regular ed and special ed) throughout the unit who have significant mental health needs that cannot be met in the school setting and for students returning from placement to help transition back to the school setting. Contact: danielle.hawn@k12.nd.us to request additional information. 
  • New Outlooks--a residential facility and programs for students with intellectual disabilities and functional, daily-living skill difficulties.  Contact:  jordan.lunde@k12.nd.us to request additional information regarding this program. 

It is possible for a child to receive a combination of services with their Individual Education Program. 

Lake Region Special Education works with approximately 150 professional and paraeducators to make these programs successful for over 600 special needs students.. Programs are available as needs determine to children ages 3-21 years of age.
