State Requirements for Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants (COTA) in New Mexico:
Associates degree from an accredited occupational therapy assistant program - Licensure through the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department - Successful completion of the NBCOT exam - Supervised fieldwork and fingerprint clearance required for school-based roles.
As a school-based COTA in Ruidoso, NM, youll work alongside Special Education teams to deliver therapy that supports students in building functional, academic, and social independence. Your therapy services will give students the tools they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom. Through individualized care and consistent support, youll have a meaningful role in empowering students with disabilities and making a difference within the Ruidoso community.
Key Responsibilities:

Carry out therapy sessions under the direction of an OT.

Work one-on-one or in groups with students on motor and functional goals.

Track student performance and communicate updates to the education team.

Collaborate with SPED professionals to create accessible and inclusive learning environments.

Comply with state and district guidelines for school-based therapy.
