Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or Special Education, Certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS), and 1+ years Orientation and Mobility Specialist experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Specialist to join our team and support students with visual impairments or blindness.
Key Responsibilities:

Conduct assessments of students' mobility and orientation skills, identifying needs and designing individualized programs.

Provide one-on-one and small group instruction to students with visual impairments, teaching them skills such as cane techniques, spatial awareness, and street-crossing strategies.

Collaborate with teachers, families, and other support staff to ensure a coordinated approach to the students development and success.

Serve as an advocate for students, ensuring appropriate accommodations are in place within the school environment.

Provide guidance to school staff on the needs of students with visual impairments and assist with modifying the environment to support accessibility.

Create and maintain detailed progress reports, IEP documentation, and other necessary records.
Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Orientation and Mobility, Special Education, or related field (required).

Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals (ACVREP) (preferred).

Experience working with students with visual impairments or blindness in a school setting (preferred).

Ability to create a positive, inclusive learning environment.
