What Youll Be Doing
As aschool-based Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)in Seattle, youll play a crucial role in supporting students with visual impairments by teaching them the skills they need to navigate their environments confidently and independently. Your responsibilities will include assessing student mobility needs, developing and implementing individualized O&M instruction, and collaborating closely with teachers, families, and IEP teams. Whether guiding students in white cane usage or planning safe routes within the school and community, your work will enhance student safety, independence, and quality of life.
Qualifications and Licensure
To qualify for this role, candidates must hold or be eligible for Washington State O&M certification or licensure. A Bachelors or Masters degree in Orientation and Mobility or a related field is required. Preferred candidates will have prior experience working in school settings, familiarity with IEP processes, and a passion for student-centered support. National certification through ACVREP (COMS) is highly valued.
