Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) School Job Duties:

Assessment: Conduct assessments and screenings to identify students' functional abilities, strengths, and areas of need related to fine motor skills, sensory processing, visual motor integration, and activities of daily living.

Treatment Planning: Assist the Occupational Therapist (OT) in developing individualized treatment plans and goals based on assessment findings, IEP objectives, and collaboration with the educational team and parents.

Therapeutic Interventions: Implement therapeutic activities and interventions to address students' goals and improve their functional performance in school-related tasks, such as handwriting, cutting, self-care skills, and sensory regulation.

Direct Therapy Services: Provide direct one-on-one or group therapy sessions to students, incorporating evidence-based techniques and strategies to promote skill development, independence, and participation in classroom activities.

Collaboration: Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and other professionals to integrate therapy goals and strategies into the classroom environment and support students' academic and social-emotional success.

Progress Monitoring: Collect data on student progress and participation in therapy sessions, and communicate outcomes to the OT to inform treatment planning and adjustments as needed.

Assistive Technology: Assist in the selection, implementation, and use of assistive technology devices and tools to support students' functional abilities and access to the educational curriculum.

Parent and Caregiver Education: Provide education and training to parents and caregivers on therapeutic techniques, home programs, and strategies to reinforce therapy goals and promote carryover of skills in the home environment.

Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of therapy sessions, progress notes, and communication with stakeholders, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and school policies.
