Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work, active Social Worker license and minimum 1+ years School Social Work experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A school social worker position is available at an elementary school located in Detroit, MI, for the current school year through June 11, 2026. This full-time contract role offers the opportunity to work in a school-based environment, supporting students and families with social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct counseling and social work services to elementary students in the school setting
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to develop intervention plans
- Identify community resources and refer students and families as needed
- Support students academic, social, and emotional success through individualized and group interventions
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with school and state policies
Qualifications:
- Masters degree from a graduate school of social work program approved by the State Board of Education
- Temporary or full approval for school social work from the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) required
- Understanding of the role and functions of a school social worker
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work cooperatively with school staff and families
- Experience as a school social worker preferred
- Skilled at identifying and accessing community resources preferred
