Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) Job Duties

Assist Occupational Therapists in providing therapy services to students with fine motor, sensory, or functional challenges

Support students in achieving goals outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)

Implement therapeutic activities and monitor student progress under the supervision of a licensed OT

Collaborate with teachers, families, and other school staff to promote student success

Document student progress and maintain accurate records in accordance with district and state guidelines

Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations governing school-based therapy services
Federal and State Requirements

Associates degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program

Current North Carolina COTA license required

Supervision from a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) as required by state guidelines

Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills

Must pass all background and fingerprinting clearances required by North Carolina school districts
